In this unique “Hybrid” program, LEADers are eased into the responsibilities of being a leader while given the opportunity to attend activities as regular campers do. The transition from camper to leader happens during Leadership Training Workshops, Internships and three different “Transition Guilds” which replace two electives in their daily schedule. Program participants learn about and practice effective leadership skills such as teamwork, goal setting, and decision making. These essential skills are useful in all facets of life, including at school, home, work, and Camp.
The daily schedule for LEADers is a combination of being a camper and being a leader. Rather than attending 3 Camp elective activities throughout the day as senior campers do, LEADers participate in 2 electives, with the training, guild and internship periods rounding out the daily schedule. And of course LEADers will also have an opportunity to participate in free swim. LEADers also complete weekly reflections, receive ongoing feedback throughout the summer, and are given formal performance evaluations at the conclusion of their experience. Along with their added responsibilities, LEADers are able to enjoy bonus events and parties.
■ Leadership Training Workshops: During Leadership Training Workshops, LEADers learn essential leadership skills in fun and interactive ways. Training Workshops are engaging and instructive sessions, featuring a wide variety of hands-on activities, group discussions and physical exercises that are on the cutting edge of adolescent development in the 21st century.
■ Camp Guilds: The LEADers rotate through 3 guilds on a weekly basis. There are specific projects and goals set for each guild, and the LEADers are encouraged to be creative, think outside the box, and take initiative. All 3 guilds contain elements and skills which are precursors to the more intense 10th Grade CIT Program. Guilds include: The Green Guild, The Hospitality and Spirit Guild, & The Service Guild.
■ Elective Internships: During daily Elective Internship periods, LEADers help Group Leaders and Specialists in facilitating activities and engaging with campers, giving them a glimpse into the role and responsibilities of being a camp counselor. LEADers are assigned to one Elective Internship period each week, and assist at this elective each day.
Minimum Week Requirements: LEADers must attend Camp for at least 3 consecutive weeks of the Regular Camp Season.
