The Counselor In Training (CIT) program at Everwood Day Camp is like a backstage pass to being a camp legend. You’re not just learning how to be a counselor—you’re actually doing it. Shadow awesome staff, lead fun activities, and make a difference for younger campers who’ll totally look up to you. Along the way, you’ll pick up leadership skills, learn how to handle responsibility like a pro, and walk away with a killer experience that prepares you for whatever’s next. It’s your chance to be the leader everyone remembers.
The program’s standout moments have included everything from swimming across the lake and campfire cooking challenges to launching new camp traditions and building friendships that last a lifetime. This isn’t just training—it’s an unforgettable, transformative experience.
CIT Registration
CITs Receive 30% off their camp tuition, and must enroll for a minimum of 4 weeks. Discount will be applied once all necessary registration forms are completed.
Internships:
At the start of each session, CITs receive focused training to understand what it means to lead and transition into their new roles effectively. With guidance from Teen Leadership Staff, CITs choose groups or program areas to intern with, arriving at their placements prepared and excited to connect with younger campers and staff. They step into these roles with a mix of enthusiasm and accountability, taking on new challenges while enjoying the privileges that come with leadership. This is where learning meets doing, and CITs rise to the occasion.
CITs step into leadership roles by assisting Group Leaders, Counselors, and Specialists during electives, group activities, swim, and special events. They gain hands-on experience leading groups, facilitating programming, and planning activities—skills that prepare them for bigger responsibilities.
The CIT schedule strikes a balance between structured group training, collaborative projects, and individual internships, with 2-3 periods spent in training and group work, 3-4 periods at their internships, and a well-deserved free swim to round out the day.
Mentorship:
CITs thrive under the mentorship of a dedicated support network, including Camp Directors, Specialists, Division Leaders, and Group Leaders. This system ensures that every CIT has the guidance they need to sharpen their leadership skills while making meaningful contributions to the camp community.
Regular evaluations and check-ins provide actionable feedback, turning every experience into an opportunity for growth. It’s no wonder so many former CITs credit this program with preparing them for their first jobs—or for joining the Everwood team as staff.
