Swimming is perhaps the most popular and important component of the Everwood Day Camp program. Our daily swim lessons allow for big opportunities for growth in skills and overall comfort in the water.
When a camper begins their summer session their swim skills are assessed. Placement in the appropriate swim instruction group is then made for all of our campers Pre-K through entering 4th grade.
Important Note: Entering 5th-10th graders do not have a specific swim instruction period in their camp day, but may choose swim instruction as one of their electives. If your older camper is not a comfortable, confident, or safe swimmer we STRONGLY encourage you and your child to elect swim instruction.
Here at Everwood Day Camp we have created a child centered swim program that will keep your swimmer moving forward and developing a love of the water! Here is a little more about what to expect…
Our Goal
Our goal for our swim program is to teach water safety and instill in all students a true love for the water. In fact we want our campers to love it so much they could live in the water. To achieve this, our goal is that all swimmers feel safe, balanced, comfortable, and happy in the water. This is how swimming and a love of water becomes a skill for life!
Location
Pre-K through entering 3rd grade swimmers have their swim lessons in our heated shallow water teaching pools.
Entering 4th graders and up have their swim lessons at the lake!
Staffing and Swim Group Ratios
We have a large team of dedicated lifeguards/swim instructors whose only job at camp is to teach swim and protect our community in the water. Swim groups are typically 6-8 campers with one swim instructor and supported with up to 2 counselors. New and less experiences swimmers can expect even stronger ratios.
The Curriculum
Our curriculum has been developed over many years of teaching experience. The curriculum focuses on learning breath control, buoyancy and balance in the water and are based off the American Red Cross swim program. All of our instructors will follow our progressions and lesson plans to ensure consistent, effective classes. Classes will incorporate lots of fun games, songs, and unique equipment to motivate every child toward becoming a stronger and more confident swimmer.
Swim Reports
If your child participates in swim lessons you will receive a swim report from your child’s swim instructor at the end of each 2 week session. We look forward to seeing your swimming skills strengthen!
